A Deeper Approach to Healing with EMDR and Intensives
Written By: Shadena Natty
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing EMDR is an evidence based therapy that helps people process and heal from distressing or traumatic experiences in a structured and supportive way. One option I offer is EMDR intensives, which are extended sessions that allow for deeper, more focused work in a shorter period of time. These can be especially helpful if you have a busy schedule, feel stuck in weekly therapy, or want to target specific experiences without losing momentum between sessions.
EMDR can be helpful for a wide range of trauma. This includes single events such as car accidents, medical experiences, or sudden loss, as well as more complex and ongoing experiences like childhood neglect, emotional abuse, physical abuse, sexual abuse, and domestic violence. It is also effective for attachment wounds, relationship based trauma, and chronic stress that continues to impact how you think, feel, and respond. The goal is not to erase the memory, but to reduce the emotional intensity and shift how it is stored in the brain so it no longer feels overwhelming.
Another important benefit of EMDR is how it supports grounding and emotional regulation. During the process, you learn how to stay present while working through difficult material. Over time, this strengthens your ability to manage triggers, feel more in control of your emotions, and return to a calmer state more easily. Many people notice they feel more centered and less reactive in their day to day life.
I am certified in EMDR and have completed extensive training to provide this work safely and effectively. Part of that training required me to experience EMDR myself, which gives me a deeper understanding of the process from the client’s perspective. This allows me to approach sessions with both clinical knowledge and a genuine sense of what the work can feel like.
